Stress, Drinking, and Pregnancy

Drinking During a Pandemic

As more people are home due to social distancing we have seen reports of the increased sales of alcohol throughout the United States. With increased consumption of alcohol comes increased concern about the potential risks to expectant mothers. We understand the difficulties of these times and encourage everyone to stay safe and informed.

The National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (NOFAS) affiliate in North Carolina posted a topical blog addressing drinking during high stress times.

Remember, During Pregnancy:

There is no safe amount of alcohol to drink… not even a little!

There is no safe type of alcohol to drink … not even wine or beer!

There is no safe time during pregnancy to drink… not even before the woman knows she is pregnant!

If you have questions about drug or alcohol use and would like to speak to a counselor, we encourage you to use the free, anonymous online Ask A Counselor resource from National Council on Alcoholism & Drug Abuse.
